PIVOT's Statement on the Fifth Anniversary of DACA
/August 15, 2017
Today, August 15th, marks the five year anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA), a program that defers the deportation of eligible undocumented immigrants and allows them a work permit for two years. More than a relief program, DACA provides opportunities to many immigrants across different racial/ethnic groups, including Vietnamese Americans.
Today, we stand with the nearly 800,000 Dreamers, who face potential deportation as DACA is in jeopardy because of a lawsuit threatened by Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton.
We at PIVOT, Vietnamese refugees and children of refugees, believe that we are all Dreamers, seeking a right to life and human dignity. We stand against efforts that would tear apart families. We condemn any divisive narrative that pits immigrants against each other, and reject the notion of a "good" versus "bad" immigrant. We honor the immigrant in all of us.
Take action to protect the Dreamers and defend DACA!
