PIVOT Candidate Endorsement for Hoan Dang for Montgomery County (MD) Council

January 7, 2018

We are very pleased to report that the PIVOT Board has, on the recommendation of the Candidate Support Committee, unanimously voted to endorse Hoan Dang in his candidacy for an at-large position on the  Montgomery County, MD Council.  Hoan’s campaign Web site is at: http://votedang.com/.  You are strongly encouraged to donate whatever you can at the ActionNetwork website

Information about Hoan:

Hoan's professional background is in engineering, but he has a significant amount of public service experience. He's served on more than 15 nonprofit boards, commissions, and community organizations, including as board member and president of the Association of Vietnamese Americans, which has resettled and provided direct services to over 25,000 refugees and immigrants.

Hoan also has valuable political and civic engagement experience. He has been a leader in the local Democratic Party and was an original PIVOT organizer in the Virginia/Maryland/DC area and formerly chair of our Voter Engagement committee. He was a founding board member of the Asian American Political Alliance, which focuses on increasing voter engagement. He ran for the Maryland House of Delegates in 2010 and was elected to the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee.

Hoan is running as a Democrat for one of four Montgomery Council At Large seats in Maryland. He is up against about 25 other candidates, but based on his fundraising and endorsements, is one of the leading candidates. The County is home to over a million people (a population larger than 8 states). Demographically, it is  is a minority majority county with a population that is 15% AAPI, including 1% Vietnamese. Politically, Montgomery County is very Democratic, so Hoan's main contest will be in the primary.
