PIVOT Press Release Build Back Better
/WASHINGTON, D.C. – On October 28, 2021, President Biden released the framework for his Build Back Better Act. The framework presents historic levels of investment in climate, healthcare, childcare, immigration, justice, and jobs.
PIVOT applauds President Biden, as the announcement of this Build Back Better framework marks a significant achievement towards a $1.75 trillion investment into the American people to address climate change, healthcare access, immigration, childcare, and economic inequities. President Biden and Congress are on the verge of passing the largest economic investment since the Great Society. Today’s framework came after months of long negotiations and millions of activists, including PIVOT members, advocating for large investments.
The Build Back Better framework will do the following:
Combat the climate crisis by investing $500 billion to clamp down on climate-disrupting pollution
Require the wealthy to pay their fair share in taxes and invest those dollars to uplift millions of low-income and working-class people
Aid working families by providing universal preschool
Expand the Affordable Care Act and reduce premiums for 9 million people and expand coverage to 4 million of those uninsured
Reduce child poverty by nearly half through extension of the child tax credit
Reform our broken immigration system by providing $100 billion investment to reduce backlogs, expand legal representation, and make the asylum system and border processing more efficient and humane.
In Response, PIVOT President Dr. Tung Nguyen Released the Following Statement:
“We congratulate President Biden for advancing a bold vision to address climate change and many of the economic, health, and racial inequities felt by millions of Americans, including Vietnamese-Americans. We recognize that this is a compromise from the original $3.5 trillion based on a progressive agenda, but nonetheless the policies in these bills will be transformational and great for our communities. We urge Congress to support this framework and pass the Build Back Better Act, alongside the Infrastructure bill, as soon as possible. “
