PIVOT ỦNG HỘ BLACK LIVES MATTER: SINH MẠNG NGƯỜI DA ĐEN ĐÁNG QUÝ

PIVOT đoàn kết với phong trào Black Lives Matter. Chúng tôi chia sẻ đau thương trong cái chết của George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Nina Pop và nhiều người nữa do cảnh sát và hệ thống bạo lực để đàn áp người Da đen gây ra. Chúng tôi ủng hộ những người biểu tình – con số lên đến hàng triệu – đã xuống đường để biểu lộ đau thương và giận dữ, và đòi hỏi những thay đổi cơ bản.

Là người tị nạn và con cháu của người tị nạn Việt Nam, chúng tôi tin cần chống lại sự bất công để mang lại một tương lai tốt đẹp hơn cho mọi người. Chúng tôi hiểu rằng cộng đồng chúng tôi đã từng tham gia, vô tình hay cố ý, trong sự đàn áp có hệ thống này. Đây là lúc chúng ta đứng lên tranh đấu bên cạnh các anh chị em người Da đen chống bất công, như họ đã từng tranh đấu để giúp chúng ta không bị đối xử phân biệt trên nước Mỹ. Chúng tôi mong mỏi các cộng đồng da màu sát cánh với nhau trong giai đoạn thử thách này.

Trong vài tuần qua, chúng tôi đã phân tích và bàn thảo về nạn kỳ thị chủng tộc ở Mỹ và chúng tôi có thể cam kết gì trong cuộc tranh đấu này. Sứ mệnh của tổ chức chúng tôi là khuyến khích và ủy quyền cho người Mỹ gốc Việt tranh đấu cho một nước Mỹ công bằng và đa dạng, và do đó, chúng tôi đưa ra các cam kết sau đây:

1.    Chống lại nạn kỳ thị người Da đen khắp nơi, kể cả trong chính tổ chức và cộng đồng của chúng tôi: Chúng tôi thừa nhận rằng cộng đồng gốc Châu Á đã từng có một quá trình kỳ thị người Da đen và chúng tôi sẽ cố gắng cung cấp tài liệu để hướng dẫn thành viên PIVOT và cộng đồng hiểu rõ vai trò của chúng ta trong quá khứ. Chúng tôi sẽ lắng nghe và trao đổi với các nhà lãnh đạo và các tổ chức với quá trình tranh đấu trong lãnh vực này. Chúng tôi sẽ công khai tạo điều kiện cho các các thế hệ người Mỹ gốc Việt trao đổi thẳng thắn với nhau.

2.    Củng cố quan hệ với các tổ chức phục vụ cộng đồng người Da đen: chúng tôi cam kết sẽ xây đắp quan hệ với những tổ chức đang sinh hoạt chống lại nạn kỳ thị chủng tộc để học hỏi thêm về vấn đề này. Chúng tôi sẽ tìm đến và hỗ trợ những tổ chức với sứ mệnh và mục đích tương tự với chúng tôi do người Da đen lãnh đạo.

3.    Cộng tác để phá hủy hệ thống thượng tôn của người da trắng bằng cách ủng hộ các ứng cử viên có khả năng và mục tiêu mang lại một nước Mỹ công bằng: Chúng tôi sẽ gia tăng thủ tục sàng lọc ứng cử viên để bảo đảm rằng họ đứng cùng phía với cộng đồng người Da đen và nỗ lực hủy bỏ các hệ thống xã hội nhắm vào đàn áp các cộng đồng da màu.

Chúng tôi hy vọng rằng những điều ghi trên chỉ là điểm khởi hành để dẫn đến nhiều sinh hoạt đoàn kết với cộng đồng người Da đen. Chúng tôi quyết tâm cải tiến và đoàn kết trong phong trào Black Lives Matter. Chúng tôi hiểu rằng sinh mạng mọi người không đáng quý trừ khi sinh mạng người Da đen đáng quý.

PIVOT for Black Lives Matter

PIVOT stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. We mourn the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Nina Pop and so many others lost to police and systematic violence and oppression against the Black community. We stand in support of millions of people taking to the streets to express pain, grief, and outrage, and to demand fundamental change in this country.

As refugees, children of refugees, and immigrants, who all have roots to Việt Nam, we have a history of denouncing injustice, fighting against oppression, and believing in a better future for ourselves and our family. We also recognize that our community has also been complicit in this systemic oppression. It is time we stand up against this injustice and fight alongside our Black brothers and sisters, as they have fought for us and ensured that we as Vietnamese Americans have equal rights in America. Communities of color must come together in this moment of test.

In the past few weeks, we have reflected on our connected history, and to deliberate on our commitments before releasing our solidarity statement. As an organization whose mission is to engage and empower Vietnamese Americans for a just and diverse America, we commit to the following actions: 

1) Working against anti-Blackness in our own organization and community: We understand that there is a history of anti-Blackness in the Asian community and we will work to ensure our members and community members are provided resources and training to unlearn this. We will look to teachings and learnings from activists and organizations that have worked and are working to build solidarity, and continually examine ourselves, as we know we have a lot to learn and unlearn. We will share publicly these resources with our community, including in-language resources that encourage greater inter-generational discourse. 

2) Building stronger ties with organizations serving the Black community: In order to stand in solidarity with the Black community, we need a better understanding of and to intentionally build relationships with organizations that are doing the important work. We will look to Black-run organizations that have similar missions and goals to ours to see how we can support their work. 

3) Dismantling White supremacy by supporting candidates that will bring us to a just America: Before supporting or endorsing a candidate for public office, we will increase our screening efforts to ensure the candidate stands in solidarity with the Black community and actively wants to dismantle systems that hurt communities of color. 

We know that as an organization, we still have a lot to learn and a lot of room to grow. We are hopeful that the aforementioned items will be the beginning towards greater action and solidarity with our Black community. We commit to doing better, and to unite behind the Black Lives Matter movement. We know that all lives will not matter unless Black lives matter.
