PIVOT Marks 8 Years with New Chapter in Leadership

February 21, 2025

With the beginning of the new year marking the 8th anniversary of the founding of PIVOT, we are excited to announce important transitions in our organization. Our President and Founder, Dr. Tung Nguyen, will be stepping down. We are pleased to announce that Khanh Nguyen, a founding board member and a leader in our Election work, will be PIVOT’s second President. Victoria Nguyen, a board member and leader in our communication efforts, will be PIVOT’s first ever Vice President. They have both been integral to PIVOT’s Elections, communications, operations, and strategic work for the past 5+ years, alongside Dr. Tung Nguyen.

“Leading PIVOT has been one of the great privileges and experiences of my life,” said Dr. Nguyen. “I made new friends among people of all ages across the country, and I am so proud of what we have accomplished in terms of building capacity, influencing policies, and electing candidates who support progressive Vietnamese Americans and their aspirations.”

Along with many others, Dr. Nguyen founded PIVOT in February 2017 to organize for collective action against the policies of the first Trump administration. “After 8 years, it is time for new leadership, and the organization is in great hands with Khanh’s and Victoria’s guidance,” Dr. Nguyen said. “I’m still 100% committed to supporting PIVOT’s mission and activities.”

PIVOT’s mission is the same as it was at its founding: to build a just and diverse America by engaging and activating progressive Vietnamese Americans and our allies, through civic engagement and community building, and to support policies and candidates that lift up Vietnamese Americans.

“PIVOT's strength has always been in our community's progressive values and grassroots energy,” PIVOT President Khanh Nguyen said. “As we enter this next chapter, we'll build on our foundation of civic engagement while expanding our reach to more Vietnamese Americans across generations. Our fight for racial, economic and environmental justice, for immigrant rights, and for the democratic foundation of this country is more crucial than ever. I'm honored to help lead PIVOT forward, building on Dr. Tung Nguyen's incredible legacy while growing our impact and engagement across the country."

"We're excited to launch new initiatives that will deepen our connections with chapters nationwide and create more opportunities for Vietnamese Americans to make their voices heard,” PIVOT Vice President Victoria Nguyen said. “PIVOT's strength comes from our dedicated volunteers and supporters, and we'll be introducing innovative ways to support their organizing work, amplify their stories, and build lasting progressive power in our communities."

As PIVOT moves forward towards its second decade, we express our deepest gratitude for our volunteers and supporters who made our work possible and enabled the victories we have had.

We are ready for the struggles ahead as we work to expand our efforts to build a just and diverse America. Join us on this journey!
